How can we help?

How much can I spend with Afterpay?

Pay in 4 spend limit

Your spend limit is the maximum amount you've been approved to spend with Afterpay under your Pay in 4 credit contract. This amount may increase or decrease over time based on your account activity and our assessment criteria.

Your available to spend is the estimated amount you can put toward a new Pay in 4 purchase. It takes into account your spend limit, any Spend Cap settings, open order amounts, and unpaid late fees. This amount is estimated and is not a guarantee of approval.

Spend Cap is an app-only feature that lets you cap your spending below your maximum spend limit, with a minimum of $100. You can apply or update your spend cap at any time.

Whether you're a new customer or have been with us for a while, we regularly assess the spend limit that's appropriate for you. Factors include your on-time payment history and how long you've been using Afterpay.

What affects your spend limit?

  • Account information — the details you've provided and information in your credit report must be up to date

  • Payment history — consistent on-time payments and how often you place orders

  • Tenure — how long you've been using Afterpay

You can view your spend limit and available to spend in the Afterpay app or on the website at any time.

Pay Monthly spend limit

If you've been approved for Pay Monthly, you have a separate spend limit for Pay Monthly alongside your Pay in 4 spend limit. Both are visible in the Afterpay app.

Pay Monthly spend limits range from $1,000 to $20,000. Your Pay Monthly spend limit is assessed independently from Pay in 4 — spending on one doesn't reduce the other.

Your Pay Monthly available to spend is the amount you can put toward a new Pay Monthly order. Like Pay in 4, this is estimated and not a guarantee that each order will be approved. Every Pay Monthly order is assessed individually.

What can temporarily reduce your Pay Monthly available to spend?

  • Pending orders — when a merchant hasn't shipped your item yet, a hold is placed on your available to spend until the order activates. See Pending orders for details.

  • Apple Trade In holds — if you're trading in a device at Apple, a temporary hold equal to the estimated Trade In value is placed until Apple sets the revised Trade In value. See Apple Trade In for details.

If your Pay Monthly application isn't approved, you can still use Pay in 4, subject to your usual approval rules.
