Apple Trade In with Pay Monthly

If you traded in a device as part of your Apple Pay Monthly order, here’s what to expect.

Afterpay places a temporary hold on your Pay Monthly available to spend. The hold equals the estimated Trade In value Apple gives you at checkout. Once Apple inspects your device and confirms the final Trade In value, the hold is either released or replaced with a new order for any difference.

How the hold works

When you place an order with Apple Trade In, Apple gives you an estimated Trade In value at checkout. Afterpay holds that amount against your Pay Monthly available to spend.

This hold:

  • Is temporary

  • Reduces your available to spend while it’s in place

  • Doesn’t change your existing orders or payment schedules

  • Is visible in the My Afterpay tab (in the app or web portal)

After Apple inspects your device

Apple sets the revised Trade In value after inspection. Here’s what happens for each outcome:

Revised value matches the estimate

The hold is released. Nothing changes to your orders or payment schedule.

Revised value is lower than the estimate

A new Pay Monthly order is created for the difference, on the same terms as your original order (same term length, same interest rate). The temporary hold on your available to spend is released when the new Pay Monthly order is created. You’ll see a new payment schedule in My Afterpay.

Revised value is higher than the estimate

Apple sends you an Apple Gift Card for the difference. The hold on your available to spend is released. Your existing orders are unchanged. You cannot use Apple Gift Cards for payments to Afterpay.

Device is rejected by Apple

A new Pay Monthly order is created for the full estimated Trade In value, on the same terms as your original order (same term length and interest rate). Apple will contact you directly about next steps.

Device lost in transit

If your device hasn’t arrived at Apple, contact Apple at apple.com/au/support or by calling 133 622 to check the status. If Apple confirms it was not received, a new Pay Monthly order is created for the estimated Trade In value on the same terms as your original order.

Where to see your Trade In status

In the My Afterpay tab (in the app or web portal):

  • You can view your existing Pay Monthly orders.

  • Your available to spend may be temporarily reduced while Apple processes your Trade In.

  • Any new Trade In order will appear here once created.
