Am I eligible for Pay Monthly?

To be eligible to apply for Pay Monthly, you need to:

  • Be an Australian resident aged 18 or over

  • Have a regular income

  • Have an active Afterpay account (Pay in 4) in good standing

  • Link an Australian-issued debit card (credit cards aren’t accepted for Pay Monthly)

We’ll assess your income, expenses, and financial commitments, and carry out a credit check through Experian. Afterpay performs credit checks to help fulfil our regulatory obligations in Australia.

Spend limits

Your Pay Monthly spend limit ranges from $1,000 to $20,000. It’s decided separately from Pay in 4. Having a Pay in 4 account doesn’t guarantee approval for Pay Monthly.

The minimum limit shown during your application is based on your Apple cart size (you can’t select a limit lower than what you’re purchasing). The maximum is $20,000 for everyone.

Your Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly spend limits are separate from one another. If you spend using Pay Monthly, only your spend limit for Pay Monthly will be affected, and vice versa.

How to apply for Pay Monthly at Apple

At Apple checkout (online, in-store, or telesales), choose Afterpay as your payment method.

  • Already have Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly? Select Pay Monthly at Apple checkout.

  • Already have Pay in 4? You’ll apply for Pay Monthly at Apple checkout.

  • New to Afterpay? You’ll need an existing Pay in 4 account to apply for Pay Monthly. You’ll apply separately for Pay in 4 and then Pay Monthly in one application flow.

Applying for Pay in 4 (new customers)

The application involves:

  • Providing information about your income and expenses

  • A credit check

  • Afterpay providing you a decision on your application

If your Pay in 4 application is not approved, you won’t be able to apply for Pay Monthly at this time.

Applying for Pay Monthly

The application involves:

  • Providing information about your income, expenses, and household

  • Logging in to your bank for a one-time verification

  • A credit check

  • A decision on your application

Before you confirm, your Afterpay payment summary shows what’s due now, what you’ll pay later, and the maximum interest for your order. You’ll never pay more interest than what’s shown at checkout.

If you’re declined for Pay Monthly

If we can’t approve your Pay Monthly application, we’ll let you know. Your Pay in 4 account will not be affected by this decline.

To request a copy of your credit report or to dispute any inaccuracies, contact Experian Australia directly. Experian acquired illion’s consumer credit bureau in 2023, so your report may still appear under the illion name:

Application timing

If you don’t complete the application and down payment (when applicable) within 90 minutes, the session expires and you’ll need to start the application process again.
